"Wonder what that's all about?" Glad you asked, pal. Thanks for the query, sister. In basic terms, Sweater has been conceived as a way of covering nightlife. Music (especially electronic music), fashion, club culture, movies, books...I don't know...food, toys, whatever. "Life after dark" is the way we like to think of it. It's a pretty broad mandate, which is one reason we chose a name like "Sweater," with no specific associations. If you happen upon the magazine in a club or a bar or a restaurant, any one of the umpteen places it's being circulated, most likely you'll find something intriguing within its pages. If not, you may want to check your pulse. Some points of interest relationt to the debut issue: Firstly, we want your input. After you've had a chance to read over the magazine, turn to the questionnaire on page 80. Many minutes of fun may be had answering the entertaining and mirth-provoking questions therein, plus we'll in turn gather a lot of information about you which will prove useful as a conversation-starter should we drop by your house unexpectedly for dinner. Sweater's unique distribution network - the first time, as far as we know, that a magazine has been distributed fanzine-style on a massive national scale-provides us with a degree of interactivity unusual in a publication of this size. The questionnaire is but one tool in the Sweater fact-finding arsenal, but it's an important one. Please take the time to fill it out and send it off to Sweater HQ. Secondly, make sure you check out the similarly diverting and informative "Are U There?" club listings; each issue will feature a particular city in its opening spread. The first issue focuses on New York City, because it's the biggest one we could think of. Again, the listings are intended as a resource for you, the reader. Let us know if we can serve you better. Thirdly, well...just enjoy the magazine. We tried to come up with some good gags here and there, dolloped among the informative and lively features and the fast-paced, exciting "Samples" section. There's about a million record reviews in the back somewhere. Feel free to disagree with any of the opinions therein expressed. Team Sweater: Ready for action. "It's always Sweater weather," we've taken to saying around here. We have no idea what it means, but we can't stop saying it. Jim Greer Executive Editor |
