They give me ideas about how I want to look, what I want to wear, and even who I want to be. But they don't always give me enough ideas about what I want to buy. Fashion is, to some degree, about fantasy. And fantasy is usually out of my price range - or at the very least, out of stock. In this sense, Lucky is not a fashion magazine. Rather, it is a magazine about shopping. And shopping, I'd argue, is all about realizing your fantasies. In small ways, yes. But on days that are like most days in my life so far - days when I don't settle the conflict in Kosovo, win the lottery, or establish a system of economic and social opportunity that creates true equality for all - I'm willing to settle for the very real joy that there is to be had in finding the perfect kitten-heel pump. Lucky is a magazine created for - and, of course, by - enthusiastic, even obsessive shoppers. Our fashion director, Andrea Linett, loves to be presented with an embarressment of options, and she and accessories editor Anne Keane have assembled an amazingly comprehensive shoe guide. My desire to never again hear the words "Sorry, we're out of your size," led to the creation of Hot Tickets, where we let you know when all our favorite picks for the season will be hitting the stores. And because we want you to really use Lucky, we've even included stickers, so you can mark the items you absolutely must have and just might die without. Mostly, I hope you have fun with Lucky in all the ways you have fun with shopping. This magazine is designed to give you more of those days when you can't wait to tell your friends about the great new thing you bought, because the mere thought of it makes you happy.
