Statement

Every culture values its creation stories. Here's ours.

In early 2001, I spoke with several friends, all from different backgrounds and professions. At one point, our conversation turned to popular media. Despite all the buzz over the Internet, we agreed that magazines continued to be a powerful form of mass communication.

But as the discussion turned to our favorite magazines, our enthusiasm soured. Magazines that shaped the 20th Century are mere shells of what they once were. Massive media conglomerates have zapped the overwhelming potential for original writing or artistic expression. That era of great American magazines has long passed.

Rather than get discouraged, we were inspired. We started our mission to create the next great American magazine. Deconstructing the best magazines, we established our objectives.

First, the magazine will challenge readers with the most imaginative and insightful perspectives on art & design, politics & culture, and fashion & entertainment anywhere.

Second, the magazine will be a platform for creative minds. The writers, artists and photographers will be unimpeded by tradition or creative restrictions.

We named the new magazine Atomica. Why? Atomic power is simultaneously dynamic and destructive. Atomica will create energy to fuel its readers' passions, intellects and souls. Atomica will also drop bombs on the worlds of politics and pop culture.

With words to live by and pictures to die for, we highlight the people, places and things that savvy readers want to know about. But we need your feedback to make Atomica the best it can be. Please let us know what you like, what you dislike, and what you would like to see more/less of. Send your comments to: Atomica Magazine, 400 South Beverly Drive, Suite 400, Beverly Hills, California 90212. You can also send me an email at editor@atomicmagazine.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
